HybridiSpeksi

Webpage and marketing materials for HybridiSpeksi

HybridiSpeksi is a theatre production of students from Faculty of Science and Engineering in University of Turku. HybridiSpeksi is known for it's high quality in marketing materials, even though budget is non-existent. I've been playing big part in designing and building the current website and also in previous years I've been an active member and also responsible for videos and graphic materials. Check out the link above for one of my favorite video projects.

Powau

Webpage and webstore for Powau coffeehouses

Powau was a brand of coffeehouses located in three cities and they were known for their both delicious and healthy foods and overall personal business style. My role as their nerd guy started as a request to do minor fixes to old company website, when Powau was known as PureHero. But it escalated quickly as the company did a makeover for it's brand and this required a webpage to reflect their new branding. Company also wanted a possibility to sell their products on a webstore. Unfortunately Covid-19 pandemic and restaurant restrictions hit Powau too hard, and even though webstore was successful, it wasn't enough and Powau had to close it's doors permanently.

ATK-YTP 2018

Webpage and marketing materials for ATK-YTP 2018 IT-student seminar event

ATK-YTP is an annual CS students' seminar event and Turku was the host in 2018. Our pre-event materials were so successful that we broke the records of students attending the event. Afterwards, participants wished that Turku - the original capital of Finland - would always host ATK-YTP from now on.

The Centre for Learning Analytics

Webpage and project managing for The Centre for Learning Analytics

The Centre for Learning Analytics is a research team in University of Turku. I've been a multitasker of the team responsible designing and developing the team's website (English version and CMS still in development). I've also been part / responsible for various projects like DEFA (Digital Education for all) and educational technology collaboration project between University of Turku and city of Salo.

ViLLE Learning Platform

Designing, developing and creating content for ViLLE learning platform

ViLLE is a gamified educational learning platform developed by The Centre for Learning Analytics in University of Turku. It is used in over 1/3 of Finnish schools from preschools to universities. Studies show that using ViLLE as part of the education improves greatly student performance and accuracy. My role in development of ViLLE has been developing and designing learning materials for both teachers and students. I've also been part of designing the user experience and assisting software developers with front-end challenges. Even though ViLLE is a research funded, non-commercial platform, there's something been done right as number of users has been exponentially rising for previous few years. Currently there are more than 10 000 teacher and more than 300 000 student accounts created in ViLLE.

Color Palette App

Project to practice ReactJS

This app is a practice project from a great Udemy course about ReactJS. With this single page app user can create new color palettes or use the template ones. Even though React Hooks and Redux are the modern way of doing things, I felt like needing more old school practice on passing props to components and handling state changes. So this project got my hands dirty on that and also taught me some nice tools like dynamic CSS styling and page transitions between routes.

Natours

Project to practice NodeJS, MongoDB and Pug templates

Natours is a practice project from a Udemy course. The course quite thoroughly teaches good practices in creating RESTful API and an NodeJS/Express application with safe user and database management. Even though my interests are more on a front-end side of things, I wanted to understand back-end development better and this was a nice way to learn that, as the end result is visually nice to look at.
